Introduction: Wobbly Table Leveler

When you visit a bar or restaurant and find the table you are sitting at is wobbly, it's a real pain as the drinks on the table may spill over. While it may be possible to fix the table with a folded-up piece of napkin, this is not ideal. A better solution is to use a small wooden wedge to level the table. By making some small disposable wedges (as described here) and leaving one in your bag or jacket pocket, you will easily be able to fix a wobbly table when you find yourself sitting at one.

Supplies

Small piece of scrap wood.

Step 1: Make a Mitre Box

Create a Mitre box from some spare pieces of 4 by 2 (also known as 2 by 4 in some countries). The Mitre box I had needed to have a 45-degree angle added, so I made a 45-degree angle by folding a piece of paper diagonally and marked the angle on the Mitre box. Then I cut the box using a Mitre saw.

Step 2: Cut a Small Angle Piece

Cut a small piece of scrap wood at a 45-degree angle using the Mitre box.

Step 3: Create Small Wedges

Place the point of the 45-degree piece of wood into the back of the straight cut in the Mitre box. Angle it slightly off, so a small wedge can be cut (as shown in the photos). Cut a number of small wedges from the same piece of wood in the same way.

Step 4: Have a Wedge Always Handy

Once a few wedges have been made, keep them handy so whenever you go out to a restaurant or bar you can take one, so if you find yourself sitting down at a wobbly table, you will be able to fix it with a wedge you have brought along.
