Step 1: Prep the Apple
Rinse and dry the apple. You can use whatever kind of apple you want. I love using Gala apples.
Time to cut it into thin slices. There are a variety of ways you can do it. You can core the apple first and then slice it with a knife.
You can cut the apple in half and dig out the seeds. Then slice it using a mandolin.
The slices should be between 1/16th and 1/8th of an inch thick. It is okay if they aren't all the same thickness.
Place the apple slices in a bowl and then sprinkle some cinnamon on them.
Step 2: Air Frying Time
Remove the air fryer basket and arrange the apple slices flat. It is okay if they are overlapping each other. Sprinkle on more cinnamon as desired.
Place the basket into the air fryer and set the temp to 300F/150C. Cook for 5 minutes. Remove the basket and give the apple slices and shake. Arrange them flat again and replace the basket. Cook again for 5 minutes. Repeat those steps until nice and brown. Remove any slices that are brown, these will be the thinnest slices. And place them in a bowl. We don't want to overcook those. It usually takes about 20 minutes total to cook all of them.
Although they are browned they may feel soft at first. Don't worry they will crisp up as they cool.
Step 3: Serve Them Up
Time to serve up those apple chips. A yummy healthy snack to make using that air fryer. Enjoy!
Store any leftovers in a ziplock bag or an airtight container at room temp.

If you have a convection oven you can do it in that.

Thanks Matt for such a good and complete instructable. As usual, your directions are very complete. In a previous life I worked for a commercial snack food maker. We made sweet potato chips and apple chips. Some brands of apple chips add apple pie spice mixes to the slices. Often they are more finely ground than some of the off the shelf apple pie spices. Others add apple juice to the chips. If I add apple juice, I air fry the chips for ten minutes then dump them, and spray apple juice on the surface , not too much, just a spritz. You can add the apple pie seasoning now, or at the end. Adding the seasoning now will taste different than adding it at the end. Another approach is to very lightly spritz the chips with apple juice right as they come out of the air fryer, then put them on a pan and pop them in the oven on 200, or, best, when all the chips are done, spritz them, pop them back in the air fryer on 200 for a short stay, one minute- two minutes. Thanks again for a great instructable,

I dehydrate lots of apples from our trees on the farm... a spiral apple peeler works great, but pull the peeler blade back... you want the peel left on, as much of the flavor is in the peel. You pull the cored and spiral sliced apple off, make one cut down, and you have perfectly even and cored apple rounds to air fry or dehydrate. I usually toss them in a tub of either lemon water or vit C water first, to keep them from darkening too much and provide a bit more tartness, then add some cinnamon or apple pie spice mix. It takes about 5 sec to prep an apple that way. And then make apple butter from the cores, which contain a lot of pectin. Cook them in a little water until soft, then run through a masticating juicer, like a Champion Juicer, then cook that down with your sugar and spices.
