There are several qualities of an excellent Halloween costume. First and foremost: does the costume successfully answer the question “So what are you supposed to be?” Second, the costume should allow sufficient mobility to do whatever it is you intend to do for Halloween. If you’re going to sit quietly on the porch, you can afford a bulky costume or hot mask. If you’re going out on the town, you’ll want something that moves with you. Finally, you want something unique. You’ll want your creativity and clever DIY skills to set you apart.
Halloween is our favorite holiday because it is one of the few remaining holidays that encourages DIY. A store-bought costume is considered lame, and the ultimate point of pride is to receive a compliment for the accuracy, authenticity, or weirdness of your costume. Because we know that busy people and children also want to make their own costumes, we’ve set aside special Judges' Prizes for the Best Easy Costume as well as the Best Kid’s Costume.
Show us your most creative DIY Halloween costume to win a Canon T5i DSLR, a Samsung Galaxy Tab, or one of several other awesome prizes!
